Estate Sale vs. Auction !
Posted on Monday, June 3,2018
When liquidating an estate keep in mind there are options…
finding the option best suited for your situation.
(Also known in some parts of the country as Tag Sales) are a viable option for
those looking to liquidate a large portion of household items. Prices are preset but, are often discounted
as the sale progresses. In some cases a minimum
reserve can be placed on a few select pieces, discussing this with the Estate
Sale company is key. Some estate sale
companies also keep detailed inventory lists, offer to pre-sell specific items,
and offer clean up/ clean out services. Keep
in mind onsite Estate Sales are a viable way to get the house contents
and the house seen / sold. Meaning if your estate sale company works closely
with a realtor …the sale acts as a FREE OPEN HOUSE! …achieving a double goal… sell contents and sell
are another option, selling select items. (not usually an entire household). The goal is bidders start low and drive the
price higher. Pending how many bidders
are interested will determine the end price…. In the case of auction, prices
are absolute… meaning unless you request the auction-house place a minimum reserve
on the piece being sold, the piece can sell for a lower than expected price…. Or
higher… It’s a bit of a gamble.
Do your homework to find the best option for your family’s

Treasures worth giving!

Over the years I have found that Estate Sales can be more than just an enjoyable day out. Treasures can be found for keeping and giving. Most items are gently used, and some have been in a curio cabinet and rarely been touched. These items can make wonderful gifts for a Birthday or Christmas... What a sentimental gesture to give someone close to you a small token to complete a collection of Hummel Figurines or Porcelain Bells. Prices are ussually a fraction of what you would pay in the store, and you meet some interesting people along the way. Happy Hunting...see you soon.

Although we have been doing Estate Sales for some time now, I thought it was time to offer an insight from a previous sale. I recently did a sale for an older couple, where the son was the power of attorney. The items which were collected over the years were plentiful to say the least. I got the feeling the son was a bit overwhelmed and frustrated at times... he referred to many of the items as JUNK. Rest assured, we come across many sales where folks think there is junk and are pleasantly surprised with the final check presented to them. We recommend not throwing anything out until one of our professionals has looked at the estate. ~ Erika
